Bahamas. One species, M. clathratum, Mert., is romoved hom illo genus and placed in that os Cystodiotyon, J. E. Gray, together With
phonia, the structure resembles Polysiphonia, and the gruenisti colour of tho planis might suggest an assinity to the Chlorophycem, but tho fruit is that os Eoiocarpacem. In the sterile stato thocolour is greenish, like that of Eclocarpus vire8cens or E. viridis, but in tho fruiting stato it is yelloWish. of the tWo neW species, one, X. Matisii, comes hom Australia, and the other, X. Nulliae, srom Florida. One neW Australian spocles of Echionia, E. stenophylla, is add0d to tho Laminaria eo , and a neW genu S, Encophora, to thes cacem, both Doui Australia, but the imperfeci state os the specimens received does not permit os a complete description, althoughit is sussicioni to indicato that they aro distinet alid neW. To tho Ceram iacem have been ad ded Antithamnion nigrescens, Spongoclonium scoparium, and S. fasciculatum, ali from Australia. Tho oldnamo Dasythamnion, being hee, haS been USed for a neW genus, including one neW species, Dauthamnion setosum, from Australia. It possessos a rem arti able similarity in habit to Wrangelia clavi fera, but disters frona that plant in iis fructificalion, and in iis more distichoiasty pinnate ramification, and in the ramenta belligos almost uniform diameter hom base to apex. When dry thopiant has not the blaetiisti colour of M. clavifera, but a rus0Se0nthue. A nus Ballia, int0rmediate bet Neen B. callitricha and
antheridia of G. elongata, the characters of Whicli vindicato his previolas removat of the plant froni the genus Callithamnion. Under Gulsonia, a description os the cystoearpic fruit is given, from Whieli it appears that tho assinity of the gonus is ne arer to 1 angelia than Crouania, near Whicli it has been placed by Dr. Schmiig. A nes species of Spyridia from Florida, S. ceram ides, is referred to the biannulate group of the genus, but has Ahorterarticulations than either S. biannulata or S. breviarticulata. Referring to the close resemblance belWeen Rhabdonia and Frythroetonium in habit and structuro, Dr. Agardh observos that although in tho sterito stato it is dissiduit to distinguish E. augustatum hom R. charoides or E. Mulieri hom R. vertio illata,

having recently been able to examine the cystocarps of E. augu8tatum ho thinks that the tWo genera are analogous rather than closely related. Other neW species of Rhodophycece are Areschougia intei media, Which comes betWeon A. Sitiartii and s. ligulata, having frondsonly half tho diamoter of the lalter, With attenuate apiceS. A neW Australian plant resembling findera, having tetraspores dispersed, and not in sori, but of Whicli the cystocarps are Un-known, is provisionalty named finderar ramosa, and a neW species os Chrysymenia, also from Australia, and bearing a considerable resemblanco in habit to Gigartina pinnata, receives the name of C. Hu88wana. Another neW Australian plant having cystocarps resembling those of Curdiota, but siluated Within, not on themargin, of the frond, and of Which the tetraspores are unkn0Wn, is provisionalty named Curdioea 7 Irvinein.
Dr. Agardh having recently had the opportunity os examining tho fructification os Neringiat sil ormis, Harv., is able to state that Harvey rightly reserred the species to that genus, and thus iis
position is confirmed. A now species of Plocamium, intermediate betWeen P. procerum and P. corallorhiza, in Which the curious litile tuns os ramuli, soabundant on the species referred by Ηarvey to P. nidisicum, are present. These tusis osten occur not only on planis Withcystocarps, but also on those Mith tetraspores. Thoy do notassord any evidence of being antheridia, and should, in Dr. Agardh's opinion, be rogarded rather as an abnormal organ, intended io propagate the plant, aster the mander os other algae as in Sphacelaria), by fixing themselves on other planis. Con- cerning the genus Wrangelia, it is suggested that the differetices msit With in the reproductive organs and their appendages indifferent species should lead to their grouping into sub-genera, butoWing to our imperfeci linowledge of the fructiscation os many species this cannot be thoroughly done at present. A neW sub genuS, Ornithopodium, might, h0Wever, be sormed for the receptionos V. Matisii, and M. clavigera Should probably be separated as adistinet genus under the name of Kalidiophora. It Will thus boseon that tho algal flora os Australia is by no means exhausted, and that much remaliis to be done in biological Work connected With the
Dr. Agardit must be congratulatod on the immense amount osvork ho gets through and the variety os important observations he is ablo to contribute, Whiel, at his advanced age is simply
