THE consistence of Pilis is best preserved by heeping themass in bladders and occasionalty moistening it. In the direction os masses to be thus divided the proper consistence isnot only to be looked to at 1irst, but also iis preservation aia terwards, for is the mass on heeping become hard and dry itis unsit for that division for whicli it was originalty intended ;and this is in many instances suci, an objection to the form, that it is doubful whether, for the purposes of the Pharmamcopoeia, the greater number of articles had not better be heptin poWder, and their application to the formation os pilis test

ari uniform muSS. These pilis are of long standing in medicine, and areclearly described by Rhazis, the Arabian, who ascribes theoriginal form to Rufus, after Whom they Were first named. The proportions remain the fame as in the two last Pharmacopoeiae, but common syrup is now directed instead os syrup of sasfron.
