A program me os correlated research on the distributiori os ori balid mites and mosses in the Ethiopi an and Oriental regions was started by the bryologistDr. T. POCS, and myself MAHUNKA l 993). The work is hindered, however. by the large number of unknown taxa of Oribatida in these regions. Consequently, ithas been necessary to describe many species helare the main correlations can be
The oribatid fauna of Madagascar is of primary importance. FOr many yearSresearch has been main ly based on the extensive collections of Dr. B. HAUSER, Museum d 'Histoire Naturelle. Geneva and of Dr. T. POCS, Eger, HUngary se g. MAHUNKA l 993. l 994. l 996). The materiat be longing the superfami ly Galumnato idea, collected by Dr. T. POCS is species ricli and I have mund it necessary topubi isti the findings in two partS. Few species of Madagascar Galumnatoidea have been described. BALOGH l 960) described only mur species hom Madagascar Ctenogialumnia madiagGS- carenSis BALOGH. l 960. Gaium rella Pauliani BALOGH l 960. Orthogalumna Saeva BALOGH, l960 rogalumna longula BALOGH l 960. A long series of specimens have been extracted frona one of the Sample s. The specimens were compared with the description of BALOGH and the paralype Specimen S, and the species identity was confirmed. This species was designa ted by BALOGH as the type of the genus Ctenoga lumna. A detailed study proved that the lamellar line is indeed reduced complete-ly, but the sub lamellar line is present and clearly recogniZable. Fui thermore, theparalypes of both sexes dis play the median pore. On the notogaster no Other fea ture for characteri sing the genus was discoVered the s hape of the sensillus aloneis not sufficient). Consequently I consider Cte rogalumnia BALOGΗ l 960 to be a junior subjective synonym of Allogialumna GRANDI EAN. l 936. The description of the species is fundamental ly correct . although the studyos a longer series of specimens revealed that the sensillus is in fact less thic kenedthan originalty described and the number of the laterat branches varies bet ween 6 and l0 Fig. li). although even in a Single specimen this number may Vary. SO-lenidia p and φ2 on leg I are far removed frona the anterior margin of the tibia and are far frona each other. Sole nidium om2 on the tarsus is placed belli nil om
