That the henbane itself is narcotic is abundantly proved, that the fame poWer is also found in iis tincture is also certain, but to produce the fame effecis it requires a much larger dose. Selected common opium is here used instead of the puri- sed optum of the former Pharmacopoeia. A simple tinctureos optum was frst introduced irato the Pharmacopoeia of1787. It is oesy when in a state of dryn s sincient topowder that it is uniform in iis strength, as in iis ordinarystate it contaris an mequat quantity of Water. The strength, and there re the dose, remalias as in the former preparation, but it must always bo recollected in iis use, that the minimor fixtieth part of the fluidrachm is equat to tWo drops, ac- cor ling to the old division by that method.
