Comments. The pubescent frontal impression in males in S. frontiale is aunique feature with in the scaphidi ines. in addition. this species may be distinguis hed frona iis allied by the comparative ly shori fotirili antennat segment, in combination with the colour patier of the body. The aede agus is similar to that in S. senestriatum but the apical proces s of the median iobe is tess curved in S. frontale. The aedeagat characters indicate clo se relations hips to S. senetria Ium. These two species cata be eas ity distinguis hed by the elytral colour patieria.

INTRODUCTION

MATERIAL

The letodid materiai frona the collection of the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest HNHM) was studied. Two specimens of an unknown haeroliodes that were discoVered among themateriat were compared to three specimens of S. rufeSCens preserved in the collection of the NationalMuseum. Prague NMP). HLISNIKOVSKY l 963) designated one of them as allotypus and the others asparalypes. although the specimens did not belong to the type series. In faci the original descriptionwas based on a single se male only. For the identification of the other species mentioned in this paper. the type and other materiai are preserved in the author's collection.
