Th. formicinus and Th. coloria lenSiS are closely related. so their identification requires more attention. Males can be eas ity distinguis hed by the retro laterat tibial apophysis. In the females the duci of spermathecat organ of the vulva is agood character. DONDALE et a l. sl 964) used femur I spination to separate them additionalty - there are three spines in colora lenSiS and two in formicinus. In Hungary this character was not valid since one third of the Th. formicinuS population had three Spin CS. The se male of Th. Pictus caia be distinguished by iis anterior guide pocket of the epigyiae frona the two species mentioned abo Ue. h. atratuS and Th. vulgariS are again closely related species. The males canhe distinguished by the shape of their embolus - Th. atratuS has a continuo uscurve of iis embolus, but in Th. vulgariS the curve os embolus of is broken. Fe- males of Th. vulgaris have a depressed central division of their epigynes, and their spermathecat organ is visibi e , while CD of epigyne of Th. atratuS separates the LP-s frona each other and the spermathecat organ is hard ly visi hie. The epi- gynes of these two species usual ly become plugged after maling, and the charac ters mentioned above Caia be seen only after the remo val of this plug.
