Taho of Almond Confection, tWΟ ΟUnCOS. Distilled Water, a Pint. Add the water gradu atly to the Confection, rubbing them together, and Strain.

This will differ Dom the former lac amygdalae, only by the addition os a smali quantity of gum, Whicli preVenis more effectualty the separation of the oil on standing; and inorder to malae it smooth and uniform, it is necessary to use distilled Water. The present mode of preparation Dom theconfection is a considerable advantage in potnt of expedition, and has been practised in some shops for a sussicient time toestablish iis utility.

Many practitioners have been urgent that this mixtureshould be impregnated with a larger proportion os camplior; hut as in iis present state it is a grates ut preparation, and combines welt with other substances, of Whicli it is a common vehicle; as too, When it is intended to give camplior in large doses for iis more powerfui effecis, various methods OfeXtemporaneOUS prescription suggest themselves ; it has been determined to malae very litile change in the former directions. The division of the camphox by trituration, With alaw drops of spirit, facilitates the solution, and the water be- comes immediately and strongly impregnatev With iis sensibio qualities. Some practitioners are in the habit os preparing it by leaving a lump of camplior in a botile of Water, and POUring it oss as their use requires. Others add some viscid substance, as Sugar ; and this was done in the last Pharmacopoeia,

hut has been now omitted, because Willi suci, addition the mixtore Will not keep so weli. Camplior dissolves perfectly in Water impregnated with carbonic acid. Os water, at oi di nary temperatures, one fluidounce does not dissolve morethan one grain and Sth of camphor.

Burni hartshorn consi sis entirely of phosphate of lime, whicli is insolubie in the preparation here directed ; it is onlybrought into the state os a very fine powger, and is hept mechanicatly suspended in a mucilaginous liquor, on Whichaccount, the gum is a use sui addition to the original formula in Bates's Pharmacopoeia, whicli contains none. It is re-tained as one of those establisbed forms whicli are in use Withmany practitioners.

This celebrated and uses ut form of Dr. Gristitiis is noruintroduced for the purpose of giving precise directions for iis preparation, as being a comPOUnd Very commonly directed. The precipitation os subcarbonate of iron takes Place here, as in the directions giveri for that articie ; but that, on eXposure to the air as it drieS, attracis OXygen, and is converted into red oxyd; while this retains, ii properly prepared, iis state of black oxyd, whicli is diffused minutoly through thedense liquor, and asSisted in iis generat applications by the myrrh. The myrrh requires to be weli dried bes ore it canbe reduced to poWder.
