It has been thought right to retain the former directions for this medicine, though one colouring matter, either thecochineal or the fassron, might in fact have been suffcient; but it thus resembles the original tincture of Dr. HuXham, which was the basis of iis sirst introduction.

This Tincture is introduced as possessing the properties of the plant in a convenient, uniforna, and permanent form. Since the use of this herb in tincture has been adopted, tinctures of different strengilis have been prepared, and employed rather vaguely when the article was ordered in pre- scription : this is a saturaled Tincture, and as such has been generalty preferred.

This and some Other tinctures precipitate ori being added to an aqUeOUS fluid, and when exhibited in draughis require to be trituraled with sonae viscid liquor, as mucilage, previous to the addition of the water.
