exilis와 macer는 내부적인 상태로 물질이나 수액 등이 부족하여 말라버린 느낌의 날씬함을 나타냄.; exilis (egere, exiguus에서 유래)는 uber의 반의어로, 일반적으로 모든 물질적인 개체에 적용 가능하며 빈곤과 나약하다는 뜻을 내포함, Cic. Or. i. 12;
macer (μακρός, meagre,)는 pinguis의 반의어로, 특히 동물의 신체에 쓰이며 야윈 상태를 나타냄, Virg. Ecl. iii. 100;

반면 gracilis와 tenuis는 외부적인 상태를 지칭하며, 중립적이나 칭찬의 의미로 자주 쓰임;
